Coldplay is a British rock band. Participants in Coldplay met at the University College London hostel, where they studied. The future vocalist of the band Chris Martin (who was brought up in a Christian family and sang in a church choir) was about to become a historian, guitarist Johnny Buckland was fascinated by astronomy and mathematics, bass player Guy Berriman saw himself as an engineer, and drummer Will Champion planned to develop in anthropology. The guys started playing in January 1998, and in 2000 the real world success came after the release of their single "Yellow" from the album Parachutes, bursting into the tops of all UK and US charts. Coldplay's albums sold over 80 million copies.
The Grammy Award for Coldplay was awarded eight times. The songs "In My Place" (in 2003), "Speed of Sound0" (in 2006), "Talk" (in 2007), "Viva la Vida" (in 2009), "Life in Technicolor II" (2009), "Paradise" (in 2012), "Every Teardrop is a Weterfall" (in 2012) and "Charlie Brown" (in 2013) Coldplay also received or were nominated for Grammy Awards.
The group took part in various social projects, such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, companies in support of children with cancer. Also Coldplay spoke at the closing of the Paralympic Games 2012 in London. On February 7, 2016, the band performed in a traditional show during the break of the 50th Superbowl.
